Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

The West Virginia University School of Dentistry is seeking applications for a full-time, clinical or tenure track faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level to serve as Director of the hospital-based General Practice Residency (GPR) Program. The position will begin July 1st, 2021. Responsibilities include the advanced training of residents in all facets of general dentistry, administration of the program including the selection and evaluation of residents, meeting reporting requirements of the School of Dentistry, Commission on Dental Accreditation, and other entities. The Director reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and works closely with the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and other administrators. The Director also provides direct patient care in both outpatient and inpatient settings, as well as serving in a supervisory capacity.

Candidates for this position must have the following credentials: a DDS or DMD degree from an accredited U.S. or Canadian dental school and the completion of a CODA-accredited GPR or hospital-based AEGD program; a BLS/ACLS certification from the American Heart Association; and eligibility for a West Virginia Dental License.

In addition, the candidate is encouraged to obtain a conscious sedation anesthesia permit. Information on licensure in WV and anesthesia permits can be found at: http://www.wvdentalboard.org . Preference will be given to candidates with dental clinic administrative experience, service as a program director or assistant/associate director, experience in caring for special needs patients, and demonstrated accomplishments in research and scholarship. Hospital based patient care is also necessary.

A willingness to serve as a role model and advocate for the ideals of professionalism and high ethical standards in a health-science educational setting is essential.
