Job Title R-STEM Postdoctoral Research Associate Department Office of STEM Engagement Full Time/Part Time Full-Time Requisition Number P21011 Open Date 08/28/2020 Close Date Benefits Eligible Yes Position Summary
The Rice Office of STEM Engagement (R- STEM ) is accepting applications for a 12-month postdoctoral fellow position (with a maximum of two annual renewals given continued service).
Specific research projects will be based upon the joint interests of the postdoctoral research associate and the R- STEM team and its affiliated research faculty, and will address questions relevant to elementary, middle school and secondary science, technology, engineering and mathematics ( STEM ) education. The R- STEM postdoctoral research associate will be responsible for proposal development, peer reviewed journal publications, data collection and management as well as some teaching responsibilities in outreach programs.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in science education, mathematics education, or engineering education with peer reviewed publications in their field.
Education Required
Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate
Major/Discipline
- Education (Research, Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction)
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
Education Preferred
PhD or E.D. in education research with a STEM B.S. or M.S. degree
Experience Required
No experience required
Experience Preferred
- Strong formal background in STEM education research
- Experience or interest working in urban school setting
- Experience and expertise in qualitative or mixed methods of data analysis, and strong content knowledge in STEM education
- Teaching in a K-12 or university environment
Skills Required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as oral presentation skills
- Organization and time management skills
- Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analyses
- Experience with statistical software and large-scale datasets, and demonstrated ability to conduct descriptive statistical analysis of data using computer software (i.e., Excel, SPSS and/or SAS )
- Experience with qualitative data analysis
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of research in STEM education
- Demonstrated ability to engage in creative scholarship/research in STEM education
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple complex projects and deadlines with attention to detail and organization
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment
- Ability to work independently and professionally with minimal supervision and direction
- Proficiency with TEKS, NGSS, and/or Common Core
Skills Preferred
- Ability to conduct multilevel and other advanced statistical analyses
- Ability to develop budgets for activities related to research and evaluation
- Knowledge and skill in science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics educational programs
- Expertise in science education, mathematics education, or engineering education with peer reviewed publications in their field
Physical Demands
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
- Requires working at a computer for extended periods of time (up to eight hours a day)
Working Conditions
- Occasional evenings and/or weekends
- Position will be remote until at least December 31, 2020
