Reports To: Associate Director, Public Safety and Security

Job Summary
The certified public safety and security officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors by patrolling the campus, reporting crime and enforcing policies of the University.
Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators
The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibilities that will be required of positions given this title and shall not be construed as a declaration of the total of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position. Employees may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
Job Responsibilities
- Secures premises by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment and inspecting buildings, equipment and access points
- Maintains organization's stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements per the Clery act
Service Orientation
- Provides escort services for visitors, students and employees
- Provides public assistance, including lockout services, first aid, vehicle jump‐starts and directing traffic
Communication, Collaboration, and Teamwork
- Prevents loss and damage by reporting irregularities and informing violators of policy and procedures
Planning, Organizing, and Accountability
- Maintains up to date knowledge of the University’s Emergency Action Plan
- Enforces campus parking regulations
- Completes incident/accident reports, including those of missing or stolen property and criminal activity
Initiative, Problem-Solving, and Decision Making
- Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences and surveillance activities
- Interviews witnesses and obtains signatures
Support the Mission of the University
- Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
- Enforces and upholds the policies of the University

Required Qualifications – Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)
- Associates degree or equivalent experience required
- Valid driver's license required
- Law enforcement experience is required
- Must be certified law enforcement officer in the appropriate state, or possess IROCC classification
- Must be proficient with firearms and able to meet state qualifications
- Must obtain CPR and First Aid certification

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
- Must have common sense, problem solving and mediation skills
- Ability to respond to hostile situations and intervene in physical altercations
- Ability to work with large groups of students, including students with special needs
- Must have effective communication skills
- Must be able to respond effectively during an emergency, remaining calm
- Must have strong personal integrity
- Position requires the ability to use good judgment, think critically and communicate effectively
- Must possess a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
- Indoor and outdoor conditions around campus
- Must be able to work different shifts including days, afternoons or midnights
- Some exposure to hazards and physical risks, which require basic safety precautions

- Must be able to work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions
- Must be able to effectively use a two-way radio

- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function
