POSITION: A probationary tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Criminal Justice Program in the Department of Political Science. The department seeks a dynamic candidate who is committed to excellence in teaching and to maintaining an active research program involving undergraduate students. This position carries an initial two-year probationary appointment starting in the 2021-22 academic year on August 23, 2021.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or Criminology is preferred. However, candidates holding doctoral degrees in related fields, as well as persons who are ABD, will be considered. We seek candidates who demonstrate an ability to teach core and elective courses in our curriculum. Experience or interest in developing and teaching new courses in your area of expertise is a plus. Candidates should have the potential to bring diverse perspectives to UWEC and to be effective in working with historically under-represented student populations. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience teaching courses and conducting research in victimology or policing is desired, with the ability to teach intro-level criminal justice. Evidence of successful university teaching and demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness also will be considered an asset. 

DUTIES: Teach courses in the Criminal Justice Program in the Department of Political Science based on program needs and in accordance with specialization; actively participate in research and scholarship; provide career advising/mentorship to students as assigned; engage in service to the department, university, and profession. 

DEPARTMENT: The Criminal Justice Program, with approximately 300 majors, offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in Criminal Justice and is the largest comprehensive major on campus. Our award-winning program faculty work collaboratively with students on research, oversee service learning and internship projects, and have the opportunity to teach abroad. Many of our students take jobs with local and regional agencies upon graduation, while others attend top law schools and graduate programs.
