Wichita
State University Libraries (UL) invites learner-centered
professionals to apply for the Engineering, Patents and Trademarks
Librarian, with an appointment as Assistant Professor. As a member
of Research and Instructional Services, this librarian reports
directly to the Associate Dean for Academic Engagement and Public
Services and provides curricular and research-focused information
services as liaison librarian for the departments and programs in
the College of Engineering including Aerospace; Biomedical;
Electrical Engineering & Computer Science; Engineering
Technology; Industrial, Systems & Manufacturing; and
Mechanical. This librarian is responsible for the design,
promotion, coordination, delivery, and assessment of the library
instructional and collection development programs for assigned
departments. The position is lead librarian for patent and
trademark information services and serves as the University
Libraries’ representative to the FDLP program and USPTO’s
Patent and Trademark Resource Centers (PTRC) program. University
Libraries is the only PTRC in Kansas. The librarian works
collaboratively to develop new interdisciplinary approaches and
strategies to support faculty and student research and provides
general research and reference assistance as a member of University
Libraries Research and Instructional Services. Occasional evenings
and weekends are required. One full-time staff member is under this
librarian’s direct supervision.
Required
Qualifications: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited
program, experience working in an academic or large public library,
and experience providing library instruction and research services.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of engineering,
information resources, scholarly communication, and research
methods; knowledge of patent and trademark resources; knowledge of
the principles and practices of library instruction, reference
services, and professional standards; knowledge of trends and
policies related to library use of digital technology and
electronic resources; demonstrated ability to work well with
diverse populations; demonstrated excellence in oral and written
communication skills; demonstrated experience working well in teams
and strong interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to manage and
prioritize workload in order to meet deadlines; willingness to
accommodate a variety of learning styles and strategies in
instructional delivery and learning activities, including online
and blended learning, flexible teaching methods, and applied
learning approaches; recent experience using instructional
technology and online collaboration tools; and evidence of
potential to maintain an ongoing program of scholarship at a level
that would merit tenure and promotion.
The position carries a 12-month contract; excellent professional development support, vacation and benefits, including TIAA-CREF. Faculty librarians have tenure-eligible appointments with rank. Offers of employment are contingent on satisfactory completion of a criminal background check as required by the Kansas Board of Regents. WSU is an AA/EOE.
