The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida is seeking an Assistant Professor to perform Extension, research, teaching and service. The appointee’s extension responsibilities include transferring knowledge and technology from the University of Florida to beef cattle producers, the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) extension faculty, veterinarians, and the agricultural community under the auspices of the Florida IFAS Cooperative Extension Service. This responsibility involves provision of presentations, publications, audio-visual materials, as well as organization of conferences related to beef cattle health. The individual will also be expected to serve as a major communication link among IFAS Cooperative Extension Service, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the beef cattle industry, and food animal veterinarians. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and maintain an independent research program directed towards solving problems relevant to beef cattle health and production in the state of Florida and the Southeast of the US through the procurement and securing of intramural and extramural funding. Opportunities exist for research collaboration with faculty with established research programs in other departments and colleges of the University of Florida and with county agents. The appointee’s teaching responsibilities will include didactic, laboratory, and clinical teaching of professional students and residents in the area of beef cattle production medicine. The appointee will join an experienced food animal reproduction and medicine service consisting of 4 production medicine clinicians and one dairy cattle extension clinician.

 

Position requires a DVM or equivalent degree.
