Position Summary:
The Department of Surgical Sciences at The University of Wisconsin, School of Veterinary Medicine is soliciting applications for 1 full-time Clinical Instructor in Veterinary Anesthesia and Pain Management. The successful candidate will join the Anesthesiology and Pain Management Section, which is comprised of 5 full-time ACVAA Diplomates, 2-3 residents, and a dynamic group of 8-10 certified veterinary technicians (many of whom have VTS-Anesthesia Specialty Certification).
The Anesthesia and Pain Management Service is located within UW Veterinary Care which includes state-of-the-art facilities with equipment such as endoscopy, mechanical ventilation, dialysis, TomoTherapy, digital radiography, outpatient ultrasonography, computed tomography, MRI. We provide 24/7 service to the Small, Large, and Exotic animal sections and are affiliated with the Henry Vilas Zoo. The hospital is equipped with advanced anesthesia delivery systems and equipment necessary to provide cutting-edge clinical service to a variety of species.
Principal Duties:
The Clinical Instructor will share clinical responsibilities with the other ACVAA Diplomates to provide clinical service in small, large and exotic animal veterinary anesthesia and pain management. He/She will provide clinical instruction or clinical teaching to residents, interns, and veterinary students and is expected to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students of all clinical rotations throughout the entire hospital. Primary after-hours emergency support in anesthesia is provided by
anesthesia residents and technicians, with shared back-up support by anesthesia faculty.
Teaching responsibilities include clinical, didactic, and laboratory instruction of veterinary and graduate students/residents. Clinical Instructors have an ~ 80% appointment in clinical teaching, which comprises approximately 40 weeks/year of clinical duty, and up to 10 didactic lectures and 10 teaching laboratories per year, with the remaining time dedicated to personal development including research endeavors if desired.
