The Woodshop Technician operates and maintains a safe clean interdisciplinary fabrication shops for the College of Visual and Performing Arts. The focus of this position is wood and metal shop expertise with some digital fabrication. This position operates in spaces where students and faculty are engaged in advanced fabrication and materials research. The Woodshop provides students with an intimidation free and safe learning environment, equipped with modern technologies in support of curriculum, with which they can research, explore, and create through various materials, processes and techniques.

This is a full time academic year position, nine months.


• College degree in related field (Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Art / Sculpture, Theatrical Technical Direction, Additive Manufacturing etc.) or relevant combination of education and work experience.

• Minimum two (2) plus years of experience teaching in shop-related field is preferred.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of wood, and metal fabrication techniques.

• Foundry experience preferred.

• Proficiency with one or more of the following: ACAD, Inventor, Graphite, Solidworks, Rhino, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite.


• Provide instruction on use of wood and metal working stationary tools processes, hand tools, CNC router, 3d printers ( FFF / SLA ) etc, for students, faculty and staff.

• Maintain health and safety standards as dictated by University and government regulation.

• Maintain and repair equipment as necessary, implement upgrades.

• Maintain inventory of materials, equipment, machine parts, and hand tools.

• Supervise student employees.

• Work with Director of Fabrication Shops to continually review and improve shop practices and interfaces with curriculum.
