The Registered Nurse positions will assist with the prevention of illness and injury, assessment of health problems and needs, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort to the diverse patient population in the primary care clinics of University Student Health Services and VCU Employee Health Services.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Providing direction, education, and delivering and accurately documenting direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care. Working with students and employees at or away from work or school in relation to communicable disease
-Conducting medical history and physical assessments
-Safely administering prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions
-Preventing the spread of communicable disease by obtaining baseline and periodic testing on hospital and university employees through pre-placement and periodic exams
-Staffing the call center providing vital health information and guidance to faculty, staff and students with COVID -19 related questions and concerns. This includes routine telephonic health checks with team members, determining team member isolation and return to work, arranging advanced healthcare if needed; and associated case documentation.
-Developing and implementing medical/nursing guidelines and maintaining medical records
-Maintaining a collaborative working relationship with other University personnel on both the Health Sciences
-Adhering to the highest standard of confidentiality

This is a flexible staffing arrangement, ideal for nurses seeking additional hours.This position is limited to working no more than 1,480 hours per agency during the 12 month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year.
Shifts are flexible, during the hours of 7am-7pm M-F, and some shifts during the hours of 7am-5pm Saturday and Sunday

Required Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited nursing program
One year or more of clinical experience
Knowledge of general nursing practice, including first aid techniques and recent outpatient nursing
Ability to collect and analyze data and draw sound, reliable conclusions
Ability to use automated systems including data entry and word processing software Ability to work with an electronic medical documentation system
Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing
Strong problem solving and organizational skills
Ability to incorporate protocol changes into daily routines as necessary
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU . Experience with a diverse patient population
Knowledge of CDC guidelines and Virginia Department of Health guidelines pertaining to COVID -19
Current RN License

Preferred Qualifications

At least 3 years in nursing experience, with at least 1 year of outpatient (ambulatory) nursing, or in the performance of nursing skills relative to occupational health nursing or relevant nursing field preferred.
College health experience
