A.T. Still University's Communications and Marketing Department is seeking an Intern on the Kirksville, MO campus. The position reports to the Director of Community Relations and Public Relations.

Major Job Duties

  • Writing clear, concise, accurate, and compelling copy for various mediums, including:
    • iconnect - University online news source
    • University print/online publications, including Still Magazine (alumni) and Spark magazine (research) content, including faculty/student/alumni profiles, briefs, articles, etc.
  • Client projects - copy editing and style review
  • Web content development
  • Continual reference and compliance with University and AP Style
  • Editing and proofreading copy
  • Researching and fact checking content
  • Conduct research and interviews with students/faculty/staff/alumni on various University topics
  • Collaboration with designers, PR, and other professionals on marketing/print projects, and assist in locating/scheduling photography for written content/University publications
  • Attend University events (virtually, until further notice and COVID-19 remote work is lifted) to provide written content for news publications
  • Take social media images
  • Attend weekly C&M staff meetings


Skill or Experience Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good active listener
  • Keen eye for detail
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills
  • Ability to write creative, concise, grammatically correct, and accurate content
  • Ability to research subject matter
  • Ability to interview subject matter experts/alumni, faculty, and/or students
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet departmental deadlines (e.g., excellent time management and organizational skills)
  • Preference for previous experience writing, copy writing, or working in communications/media relations
  • Preference for a solid working knowledge of AP Style
  • Preference for ability to produce concise, accurate, well-written content to meet established deadlines
