The Open University of Hong Kong invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of School of Nursing and Health Studies.
The University
Established by the Hong
Kong Government in 1989, The Open University of Hong Kong today is
the largest self-financing university in Hong Kong and has
developed into a dynamic, innovative, full-fledged university
comprising 6 Schools.
The University has been offering full-time programmes since 2001 and joined the Joint University Programmes Admission System (JUPAS) since 2007. Currently, the University offers about 200 programmes of studies with over 10,000 full-time and 9,000 part-time students in its 5 Schools namely School of Arts and Social Sciences, Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, School of Education and Languages, School of Nursing and Health Studies and School of Science and Technology. In addition, there are about 2,000 full-time and 3,000 part-time students studying in Li Ka Shing School of Professional and Continuing Education (LiPACE).

The Position
The University is looking for
a person of high caliber with strong academic credentials, dynamic
leadership and academic administration experience to lead the
School of Nursing and Health Studies.
The School of Nursing and Health Studies holds fast to the vision of pioneering flexible and quality education in Nursing and Healthcare. It aims to develop innovative nursing and healthcare programmes at various levels to cater for different community needs. Currently, the School of Nursing and Health Studies offers 2 postgraduate programmes and 13 undergraduate degree and sub-degree programmes with over 2,300 full-time students and 1,400 part-time students. The School has also expanded its scope by offering a 4-year Bachelor of Science with Honours in Physiotherapy programme in 2020/21 academic year. Up to now, the School has nurtured over 10,000 nursing graduates who are now serving as healthcare professionals in various healthcare sectors.
The appointee shall be responsible to the President via the Provost for the overall management of the School as well as strategic planning towards advancing the University’s mission and vision. He/she shall provide academic leadership in the direction, development and operation of the School, driving excellence in teaching and research, and enhancing student success. The appointee will also serve as a member of the University’s Management Board.
Requirements
Candidates should possess the
following qualifications and attributes:
- An earned doctorate degree in Nursing, Healthcare or a related discipline;
- High academic/professional standing with strong teaching and research credentials;
- A proven track record in the administration of a school, faculty or department in a higher education institution;
- Dynamic leadership, broad vision and strategic foresight;
- Good record of professional and community services; and
- Excellent people and communication skills.
Remuneration Package
Competitive
compensation package including basic salary, composite cash
allowance, end-of-contract gratuity and discretionary incentive (if
any) will be offered to the right candidate. Fringe benefits such
as generous annual leave, staff learning and development
sponsorship, medical & dental benefits and life insurance
coverage will also be provided.
