Chief Executive Officer

 

The Coastal Educational Foundation (CEF) seeks applicants for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Reporting to the Chairman of the Board of the Foundation, this position will provide executive leadership for the Foundation and the successful operation of all aspects of the organization.

 

What is the CEF?

 

The CEF is a non-profit 501c(3) which dates back to 1954 when it was founded by a group of civic and business leaders with the goal of establishing an institution of higher education in the northeast region of South Carolina.  What is now known as Coastal Carolina University (CCU) was created through their efforts.  The mission of the Coastal Educational Foundation is to be the advocate for the donors providing fiduciary responsibility for all gifts and to support Coastal Carolina University where it can and where it is appropriate.   

 

Responsibility

 

The CEO is responsible for everything the organization accomplishes or fails to accomplish within the guidance OF the Board of Directors.  The CEO is expected to run the Foundation in a highly ethical, transparent and sophisticated manner.

 

Duties

 

Duties will include, but are not limited to: daily executive management in accordance with CEF mission, bylaws, policies, and objectives; prepare the annual CEF budget for Board approval and operating in accordance with the approved budget;

provide direct contact and communication to a thirty-member Board of Directors; supervision of all asset acquisition, management and disposition, including cash gifts, securities, real estate, insurance policies, devises and bequests;

assist the President of Coastal Carolina University and Vice President of Philanthropy in major gift fundraising; primary responsibility for donor relations, records and communications, including timely and accurate donor statements; manage the Foundation’s relationship with its legal counsel, independent auditor and investment consultant; manage the Foundation to ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, Federal and Internal Revenue non-profit organization regulations; holding, managing, and investing contributions of money, securities and personal property, including deferred gifts that are contributed in the form of retained life estates, trusts and unitrusts; direct all risk management and insurance activities of the Foundation; serve as a highly visible representative of the CEF including attending community and on-campus events as well as speaking engagements; provide accounting services for the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation and the Coastal Carolina University Research Foundation; provide guidance to insure effective operation of the Coastal Planned Giving Advisory Council; insure donor gift agreements are clear and workable; advising the Board of Trustees and the President of Coastal Carolina University on Foundation issues.

 

Education and Experience         

 

Requirements for the position include a Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field from an accredited institution and a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience as a Senior Manager.  MBA or other Post Graduate degree is preferred.  Experience in successfully managing a major non-profit organization and demonstrated success in major gift fundraising is preferred.
