The Department of Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine is seeking aSr. Research Assistantto work under direction of faculty to design and set-up standard operating procedures, and oversees data collection. Analyze data with oversight.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Working under the supervision of the faculty:

  • Aggregate, organize, curate project-specific ICU data from electronic sources including JHM EPIC, PMAP, eICU, MIMIC-III, CENTER-TBI
  • Design, test and validate statistical and machine learning prediction models
  • Assist in preparation of federal grant/contract applications, IP designations, patent applications, manuscripts, and presentations at national meetings.
  • Support activities of the Precision Medicine Center of Excellence in Neurocritical Care
  • Help in establishing a data science resource for Precision Medicine in ACCM

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in related discipline. MPH or MS in relevant field preferred. Two years of related experience. Additional graduate level education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum experience required for the respective job.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to code in MATLAB, R and Python.
  • Working knowledge of bio statistical methods applied to clinical research
  • Career interest in biomedical research

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or laboratory environment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
