General summary/purpose:

The Research Assistant will assist in the daily enrollment and participant interviewing of a two-year longitudinal COVID-19 study. The Research Assistant, under the guidance of the Research Program Coordinator, will serve as a daily contact for participants and will conduct baseline and follow-up interviews. This position will primarily involve remote work.

Specific duties & responsibilities:

  • Follow up with participants who have been screened for enrollment
  • Provide informed consent over the phone (orally) for eligible participants
  • Provide remote data collection by administration of verbal and computer assisted questionnaires
  • Schedule baseline laboratory visits (if needed)
  • Conduct monthly follow up data collection by administration of verbal and computer assisted questionnaires
  • Respond to participants’ questions regarding the study

Minimum qualifications (mandatory):

High School Diploma/GED. Some college courses preferred.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in the use of software applications, databases, spreadsheets, such as REDCap preferred.
  • Ability to speak Spanish fluently preferred

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Experience in human subjects research, interviewing, and data entry are required. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, oral communication and technical support skills required.

Technical qualifications or specialized certifications:

Current CITI basic humans subjects training required. This can be obtained online for free before starting the study. Prior skill set and knowledge working in team environments.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
