The academic department coordinator provides daily administrative support to the members of the Biology Department, Neuroscience Program, and the Bowdoin Scientific Station at Kent Island.

Education/Skills Requirements

High School: required; College: some college work strongly preferred. Solid understanding and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, e-mail, database and webpage maintenance; willingness and initiative to learn new computer applications; knowledge of processing bills and managing budgets; ability to organize and prioritize work tasks and accomplish them efficiently and accurately; strong customer service skills (visitor and telephone reception); ability to successfully work independently in a one-person office environment.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

Required: At least 2 years’ office experience (preferably in an academic setting). Strongly preferred: experience with database and calendar software; experience processing bills and managing accounts; ability to troubleshoot minor computer problems, install software; experience with maintaining web pages.

Standard Work Days and Hours

This is a full-time, year-round position.
