Licensed Practical Nursing (Evening Program) Technical Instructor



Washburn Institute of Technology seeks applications for a Licensed Practical Nursing (Evening Program) Technical Instructor to begin in January 2021. This is a 10-month, full-time position with benefits.

This position is expected to work Monday through Thursday, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and every other weekend from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Required Qualifications:

  • BSN.
  • Current Kansas licensure as a registered nurse in good standing with no disciplinary action pending.
  • Experience working in clinical sites which may include acute, ambulatory, and long-term care settings.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MSN.
  • One year of experience teaching at the post-secondary level.
  • Experience using word processing and spreadsheet software.


Responsibilities:

The Technical Instructor position consists of these essential functions: teaching, service, collegiality, and professional development.

Teaching: Duties include: develop curriculum according to course competencies on each course syllabus; prepare for and attend all class meetings; develop assignments for the classroom as well as for the lab/shop; enforce policies for safety and use of personal protective equipment for all individuals in the lab/shop environment; maintain student records about the program (i.e. certification testing and the assessment plan); administer tests; evaluate student work; provide feedback to students; assign grades; share (as appropriate) student information with the Student Services and Dean’s offices; use the University’s Learning Management System (Desire 2 Learn or D2L) to keep track of grades as required, and evaluate each course one teaches and one’s performance in teaching. Areas to be taught may include content across the life span from infancy through adulthood.


Service
: Instructors are expected to participate in college-wide staff development days and departmental meetings; carry out departmental committee assignments; serve on college-wide committees as needed; participate actively in departmental/program advisory board meetings; foster a positive relationship with industry representatives and the community, and submit recommendations related to budgeting and purchases.

Collegiality: All instructors are expected to act in a manner that promotes collegial relationships and shows respect for students, staff, and colleagues. Instructors are expected to meet satisfactory standards of performance in all areas of responsibility and to carry out those responsibilities accordingly.

Professional Development: Maintain and/or advance training in industry-recognized certifications; seek opportunities for professional development and/or advancement of educational degrees; stay abreast of innovations and developments in the professional field, and take advantage of instructional support programs offered by the Center for Teaching Excellence and Learning (C-TEL).

In addition to these essential functions, technical instructors are expected to adhere to college and University policies and to perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.
