Nature of Work:
The Marketing and Communications Specialist is responsible
for
assisting in coordination of the university’s marketing and
strategic communications functions which include but are not
limited to branding, messaging, media and public relations. This
position will identify, research and write timely and impact
stories and profiles about Albany State University.
This resourceful, collaborative member of the marketing and
communications team must have excellent overall writing, research
and communications skills. Must have a good eye for detail, strong
organizational skills and the ability to work well under
deadlines.
Develop executive remarks, talking points and Q&As.
Draft content and stories about the University.
Write internal and external emails about University-wide
initiatives.
Work on branding communications, including bios and boilerplate's,
updating existing assets and creating new ones as needed.
Provide thoroughly researched background materials on issues and
goings-on in higher education.
Be informed about overall business direction and key trends
to
ensure all written materials are timely and relevant.
Track, compile and update University stats.
Strong editorial judgment and visual sense.
Training and Experience:
3 years of experience in higher education or a relevant field
B.A in Journalism, Communications or relevant field.
Must be able to provide writing samples.
Testing Requirements:
Must be able to provide writing samples. Background Check is required.
Illustrative Examples of Work:
The position will entail researching, developing, writing, editing
and proofreading a full range of external and internal
communications materials, including executive correspondence such
as speeches, remarks, letters, talking points, Q&As, web
content and more.
This individual will work closely with media outlets, faculty,
staff, students, and alumni. Identify, develop, write and pitch
media stories in support of our strategic priorities, write and
proofread press releases, articles, blogs, newsletters,
strategic
communications, email blasts.
The Marketing and Communications Specialist will prepare and
guide faculty and administrators in advance interviews
(print,
online, radio, and broadcast).
The incumbent will collaborate with internal and external
constituents to develop/implement appropriate media relations and
communications strategies for gaining the highest level of
visibility across the media landscape.
This position will support daily crisis communication
efforts;
manage highly sensitive issues that affect the university brand;
will provide support in planning and implementation of media
relations/communications strategies/press releases for high
visibility events,
Under the direction of the Director Marketing and Communications
will collaborate with internal and external constituents to create
consistent communications strategies and messaging for projects,
gifts, and various donor events, enrollment efforts, academic
programs, and other strategic initiatives.
