Counselor/Outreach Coordinator - Accessibility Services

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Accessibility Services at UVU is seeking a Counselor/Outreach Coordinator. This is a Grant funded two-year position to increase awareness of services and resources provided by the Office of Accessibility Services through participation in campus activities, programs, and the creation of outreach initiatives (student orientations, transition fairs, etc). This role will gather and maintain data on retention and completion rates for students with disabilities, and create and monitor additional reports/data related to the unique needs of UVU students. Serve as a bridge between Office of Accessibility Services and First Year Advising connecting students to high-impact learning opportunities. Counsel students regarding disability and educational accommodations applicable under Federal/State law including, but not limited to the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. Evaluate educational, psychological, medical, career, and vocational diagnostic information, as provided by the student or others to determine student service eligibility.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in higher education, special education, counseling, psychology, or a closely related field required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge: Knowledge of the American Disability Act (1990) and the Amendments Act, Vocational Rehabilitation Act, Section 504 (1973), GRAMA, FERPA, HIIPA, and other federal and state statutes and case law. Knowledge of how to interpret educational, medical/therapeutic assessments. Knowledge of the access barriers of a wide variety of disabling conditions, including Learning Disabilities, Medical conditions, Psychiatric conditions, Physical impairments, Visual and Deaf & Hard of Hearing Disabilities. General knowledge of University academic advising practices, academic supports, and high-impact learning opportunities for students at the college level.
Skills: Strong presentation/public speaking skills, marketing and analytics. Skills in data collection and reporting techniques. Strong verbal and written communication skills, conflict resolution skills, problem-solving skills, counseling/advising skills, and ability to interact with special populations. Experience working with students with disabilities.


Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in higher education, special education, counseling, psychology, or a closely related field. Prefer experience or education in one of the following marketing, analytics, communication, public relations or a closely related field.


Physical Requirements:
Ability to use a computer for extended periods of time.
