Director of the Americas Institute - Georgetown University Main Campus

The new Americas Institute at Georgetown University seeks a Director who is a leading expert on Latin America and inter-American relations with a proven track record as a leader in the academy, business, and/or the public sector.

The Institute will build on the University's academic strengths, Washington, D.C., location, and Jesuit commitment to service to engage scholars, students, and leaders from the public and private sectors around the critical economic, political, and social challenges facing Latin America and the hemisphere as a whole.

The Director will collaborate with administrators and faculty across the university to realize this vision and to grow institute resources through grants, philanthropy, and productive partnerships with corporations, foundations, governments, and other stakeholders.

The directorship is a 12-month administrative appointment with a two-year renewable term. The director reports to the Vice President for Global Engagement in coordination with the deans of Georgetown College, McCourt School of Public Policy, McDonough School of Business, and the Walsh School of Foreign Service.

Qualifications:
  • Experience as an institution-builder; demonstrated management skill; creativity and problem-solving skills; and the capacity to define strategy, set priorities, coordinate teams, and set and meet key performance indicators.
  • Extensive fundraising experience is desired, as the director will be working closely with the Office of Advancement to grow the Institute and its programs into the future. Spanish proficiency is required.
  • Candidates from academia will have credentials including an advanced degree and a record of success in research in areas central to the mission of the Institute.
  • Degree requirements for candidates from outside academia are more flexible.
  • They will be expected to have deep professional experience and national and international stature in areas that align with the Institute's mission.
