The Office of Development at Auburn University is seeking candidates for the position of Corporate Relations Officer. The Corporate Relations Officer will report directly to the Associate Vice President for Constituent Development and will work in tandem with the Foundation Relations Officer and Development Coordinator.

The Office of Development plays an integral role in furthering Auburn University’s mission and vision. In partnership with a foundation board of 24 directors, the university’s fundraising office maintains a staff of 160 and raises more than $140 million annually. Auburn’s donors are engaged, dedicated, and generous and, through a robust and committed cultivation program, Auburn’s donor base is continually being broadened.

Essential Functions

The Corporate Relations Officer ( CRO ) will have primary responsibility for a university-wide corporate relations program that focuses on building and maintaining wide-ranging, holistic relationships with corporate partners. The CRO will cultivate and solicit corporate partners for financial investments. The CRO will be instrumental in designing and overseeing the activities of the corporate relations program with the goal of significantly increasing corporate investment in the University’s strategic priorities. The CRO will work with various stakeholders across the Auburn University campus, and will identify, analyze, and profile prospective corporate partners; manage a portfolio of corporate relationships, including developing and executing cultivation and solicitation strategies; and steward gifts. This position will serve as a key advisor to the University community on best practices and strategies to promote productive, lasting and impactful engagement with corporations.

The incumbent selected for this position should have a demonstrated ability to develop strategic, proactive relationships with corporations as well as the ability to identify business interests that match university priorities and faculty projects; demonstrated ability to work successfully with faculty and staff across a broad range of academic disciplines and to translate and shape complex research projects and university priorities into compelling fundraising proposals; able to work in a system that emphasizes measurable objectives which include targets for fundraising goals; expertise in persuasive writing in order to develop concept papers, cases for support, and successful, complex fundraising proposals that clearly articulate the need for funding and the significance of the program, and that align with funding priorities; proven track record of success in proposal writing; ability to research and analyze various reference materials in order to compile, evaluate, and disseminate data on funding sources; evidence of success in cultivating and managing highly collaborative relationships and the proven ability to successfully respond to RFPs and to develop new directions and ideas; ability in managing and coordinating complex projects that include multiple tasks with competing deadlines; superior organizational skills; a work style that is thorough, accurate and detail-oriented; the ability to follow through on projects; demonstrated sound judgment in situations requiring independent decision-making, in handling confidential and sensitive material, and in successfully navigating organizational politics; the ability to work independently as well as the desire to work collaboratively in a team-based environment; ability to work successfully with diverse stakeholders and possess superior interpersonal and communications skills including public speaking and the willingness and ability to travel extensively are all essential.

The candidate should possess a knowledge of current trends in building holistic corporate relations programs in higher education; a strategic, experienced leader with a history of developing strong business and industry partnerships and relationships; demonstrated success in corporate fundraising at a major research university; ability to thrive in a complex, dynamic, demanding environment, and to manage competing priorities; and strong organizational, strategic, analytical, and project management skills are all desired.
