Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
Obtain and prepare samples for scientific experiments, analyze data on local or remote computers in a linux environment, write scripts in python, R, or perl, read and interpret scientific literature, write up results and contribute to publications. Ensure compliance with all university, local, and national regulations. Maintain records and ensure proper storage and disposal of chemicals.
Minimum Hiring Standards
Bachelor of science with experience in molecular lab techniques, data analysis, scripting and programing in biological sciences.
Ability to establish priorities and to handle multiple tasks.
Excellent proficiency in written English
Must communicate effectively.
Must be detail-oriented and have good observation skills.
Required to have a willingness to learn and use specialized techniques as needed.
Able to work independently.
Willingness to work in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU .
Preferred Hiring Standards
Experience with in situ hybridization and systematic biology methods.
Required Licenses/ Certifications Anticipated Hiring Range 30,000 - 40,000 Application Process/Additional Information

This salary for this position is paid from restricted funds that are available only for a two year period. There is a plan to seek additional grant funds to extend the position beyond initial two years, but continuation of the position beyond the initial appointment period is dependent on successfully competing for grant funding.
