Job Description

Orvis School of Nursing and the School of Social Work, at the University of Nevada, Reno, seek innovative candidates for the Communications Specialist position.  The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing marketing and communications plans that support the strategic goals of both the Orvis School of Nursing and the School of Social Work. The Communications Specialist works closely with and follows the direction set by the University’s Office of Marketing and Communication to align with the overall marketing strategy and priorities of the University. The position functions as a partnership between the schools of Nursing, Social Work, and the Office of Marketing & Communications and reports directly to the Deans of Nursing and Social Work.

The Communications Specialist will develop, formalize, and execute marketing plans for the Orvis School of Nursing and the School of Social Work in line with the marketing strategy of the University, as established by the Office of Marketing & Communications; analyze and assess the effectiveness of messages, collateral, and distribution channels and revise strategies as needed; oversee and provide quality control for a wide array of communication and image enhancement programs, such as video, advertisements, broadcast and electronic, which may be developed by faculty or staff and disseminated to a variety of clientele; design, develop and distribute high-quality, image-enhancing promotional materials such as brochures, presentation folders and any other materials which reflect the School’s programs; develop and distribute articles, news releases and public service announcements, targeted toward various media, constituencies and audiences, and disseminate them directly to the media, through the University Communications department to the media, or through the Schools of Nursing and Social Work social media channels; contribute articles on the School’s programs to University publications such as Silver and Blue, Nevada Today, UNR Web site, President’s Report, Catalog, and any other publications, reports and online sites; develop and/or review promotional information for upload to the Schools of Nursing and Social Work websites and social media channels; provide communications expertise; respond to and facilitate phone, e-mail and social media inquiries, and connect media with appropriate resources for interviews or information.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of journalistic writing and web-based marketing design, desktop publishing experience, an ability to manage and prioritize complex projects and tasks and work in a professional collaborative environment with diverse individuals.

 

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years or Master’s Degree and one (1) year of related work experience.

Related Experience: Market-based and/or journalistic writing, marketing and/or communication.

Total Compensation

The total compensation package includes a negotiable competitive salary, moving allowance (if applicable), a rich retirement plan, health insurance options that include dental and vision, life insurance, long-term disability, thirty (30) days of sick leave provided upon start date and two (2) days of sick leave accrued per full month after the first year of service, two (2) days of annual leave accrued each full month, along with many other benefits.
