Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The purpose of the Development Communications Manager position is to maximize philanthropic support by communicating Massey’s impact through public and media relations, publications, e-communications, social media and event promotions.

Minimum Hiring Standards

Proven experience in content development; Excellent writing and editing skills for social media, web and print communications; Strong interpersonal communications skills; Ability to translate complex information into common terms; Proven experience in professional social media; Experience working with web content management systems; Expertise in principles of creating effective web pages and print communications; Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and database management. Adherence to high standards of excellence regarding visual design, attention to details and accuracy; Ability to handle many projects simultaneously to meet deadlines; Ability to upwardly manage approvals; Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to work collaboratively with teams and varied audiences. Strong critical thinking/problem-solving skills; Ability to represent Massey well in the community and to serve as an effective first impression of the organization. Ability to work flexible schedules and provide own transportation to attend after-hours and weekend events and to meet deadlines. Basic graphic design skills and working knowledge of publication software programs such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop or similar.

Preferred Hiring Standards

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, advertising, English, digital/graphic design, business or related field is preferred; Five or more years development communications experience preferred with preference to higher education or health care setting; Ability to work in a diverse workforce

Photography and video production experience is a plus; Knowledge of Associated Press writing style is a plus
