Assistant Professor of Computer and Cyber Sciences

Position Status: Full-time, 12-month contract

Position Summary:  The Department of Computer and Cyber Sciences at the United States Air Force Academy invites applications for an Assistant Professor position to begin in June 2021.  Higher ranks may be possible with corresponding qualifications.

Position Duties:  The selected applicant will teach undergraduate computer science, cyber security, data science, and/or operations research courses; conduct scholarly research; and perform service to the department and the institution.  Beyond teaching, the primary duties include curriculum development, course development and revision, academic advising, and helping develop cadets to become Air Force officers of character.

Qualifications: Candidates must be a U.S. citizen with a doctoral degree in computer science, computer security, computer engineering, data science, operations research, or a related field by the time employment begins. Candidates with a background in cyber security, artificial intelligence, or data science are particularly encouraged to apply although all backgrounds are welcome and will be considered.  Essential qualities expected of every faculty member include integrity, industry, initiative, enthusiasm, collegiality, and demonstrated expertise in both teaching and their academic discipline.  Candidates should  have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.  Candidates will be expected to contribute to the U.S. Air Force Academy mission by interacting with cadets, both in and out of the classroom as instructors and mentors. Evidence of teaching excellence and research promise is desired.  Candidates who are interested in developing future leaders of character with a desire to serve their country are particularly welcome.

Compensation and Benefits:  This full-time, 12-month position is currently transitioning from renewable term to a tenure-track structure.  The annual salary range starts at $114,291 which may be set higher commensurate with individual’s qualifications and experience.  The comprehensive benefits package includes health, dental, vision, life, and long-term care insurance; flexible spending accounts; and 28 days of paid time off plus 13 days of sick leave and 10 federal holidays with the possibility of additional time-off and monetary incentive bonuses.

Air Force Academy:  The United States Air Force Academy is a federal military service academy focused on developing officers of character and integrity to serve the nation.  The 4,400 cadets complete a broad liberal arts and sciences core curriculum together with an academic major and extensive military training and athletic programs.  The Air Force Academy is located just north of Colorado Springs, Colorado along the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.  Colorado Springs provides an extensive array of cultural and recreational activities.  The Denver metropolitan area offers even more activities, and is less than an hour north.  Additional information on the U.
