Hampshire College, one of America’s most distinguished, innovative liberal arts institutions and member of the Five College consortium (with Amherst, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts Amherst) is accepting applications for a director of admissions.

 

The director of admissions is responsible for management and full accountability for the successful development and execution of a major strategic portion of Hampshire College’s Admission Program. The director of admission will provide leadership within the office of admissions by managing the counseling staff; Implementing strategic and tactical initiatives that assure goals are achieved; and working with the dean of admissions and financial aid on admissions strategy and policy. They will contribute to all areas of the admissions process and assist in creating a progressive student-centered admissions and recruitment program. The director will collaborate with staff departments, faculty, and colleagues on events, programs, and other matters related with the admission process. They will think strategically about recruitment and building relationships with prospective students, high school guidance counselors, teachers, and schools.  

 

The director recruits and markets to students for the College’s undergraduate programs; conducts research and analysis, helps develop strategic analyses such as enrollment trends and histories, market analyses, competitor institutions, and developing programs. This position will implement a territory, prospect management initiative that will matriculate exceptional Hampshire students and lead the recruitment process to build and sustain genuine, professional consultative relationships with prospective students.

 

The director of admissions works with dean of admissions and financial aid, admissions staff, financial aid staff, students, faculty, and most College offices.  External relationships include, but are not limited to, prospective students and their families, families of current students, alumni, school personnel, and other admissions officers.

 

A bachelor’s degree is required with a minimum of five years of job-related experience. This position requires creativity, a high level of interpersonal communication skills, and strong computer and communications skills. Applicants should be results-oriented, energetic individuals who can work in a fast-paced environment. They must have effective decision-making skills and customer service experience. Qualified applicants must be flexible and adaptable to changing environments, have effective public speaking and presentation skills, and a belief in the value of a liberal arts education. The director must be superbly organized and task and project oriented; they must be able to work independently and juggle multiple tasks frequently without advance warning.  The successful candidate must be comfortable navigating challenging conversations and have a commitment to being a part of the larger Hampshire community. They must be receptive to feedback and take initiative to solve problems as they arise. Enthusiasm to plan and manage extensive travel within assigned geographic recruitment territory is necessary. Experience with the Technolutions Slate platform or a similar CRM is strongly preferred.  Good writing skills are a must and supervisory experience is necessary. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential  This position requires a valid driver’s license and must successfully meet the requirements of Hampshire College’s driver credentialing policy.
