General Summary/Purpose
The Research Technologist will primarily work on the project focusing on understanding basic principles of neural circuit plasticity in brain slices and behaving animals. She/he will be working in a team effort that includes other technicians, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Perform laboratory experiments, which may include: mouse colony maintenance, animal surgeries, brain fixation, slicing tissues, antibody staining, confocal imaging and behavioral training.
- Perform basic molecular biology such as PCR, molecular cloning, and mini/maxi prep of DNA.
- Operate basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, pH meter, analytical balance, incubator, spectrophotometer, stereotaxic injection system, light/confocal/two-photon/superresolution/DNT surgery microscope, optic fiber preparation system, laser cutter, 3D printer, fiber-photometry system, miniscope, operant behavior chambers, touch-screen system, and/or utilizes laminar flow hood.
- Operate lab computers for data entry.
- Prepare solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
- Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications(Required)
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related field. Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred. Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent organizational skills. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
