•A documented track record of successfully soliciting and managing current and prospective donors at the major gifts level OR experience generating substantial revenue in a goal-oriented for-profit environment.

• Successful experience in making cold calls and developing cultivation strategies to engage new donors.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in a research-rich environment.

• Higher education or non-profit fundraising and capital campaign experience.

• Experience cultivating and successfully closing gifts of $100,000 or more.

Job Description

Working with the entire campus, the Division of University Advancement, which encompasses Development, Communications, Advancement Services, and Alumni Relations, is dedicated to expanding community and tradition and increasing awareness and philanthropic contributions to Texas State University through alumni relations, fundraising and media relations.

Directors of Development are responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individuals to generate major gifts to support the mission and programs of Texas State University. The position requires travel to cultivate donors and potential donors throughout Texas and the country. Work venues include a professional office, social events, presentations and conferences, large and small meetings, and interactions with individuals in a variety of environments. Directors of Development establish networks of constituencies and create a “donor-focused” culture of giving, thereby generating gift income and increasing the visibility of the university, establishing long-term partnerships and/or strengthening existing relationships that will result in funding for the immediate and long-term goals of the university.

Job Duties

•Managing a prospect portfolio between 60 to 120 prospects and identifying and qualifying new prospects to be added to the portfolio as needed;

• Moving prospects through the stages of qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship;

• Conducting face-to-face visits per year with prospects/donors;

• Establishing new endowments and/or major gifts;

• Initiating opportunities for faculty, administrators, and deans to interact with prospects/donors and interpret interests to university constituencies;

• Developing and presenting proposals to prospects/donors for funding;

• Maintaining high quality stewardship processes for active prospects and donors. Ensuring that stewardship and reporting requirements are met to sustain successful partnerships by maintaining detailed records of solicitation activities;

• Collaborating with faculty, deans and prospective donors in research-rich environments to help raise funds to support research activities; and

• Working evenings and weekends as needed.
