General Summary/Purpose

The Biostatistician will provide statistical programming and data analysis for the Richman Family Precision Medicine Center of Excellence for Alzheimer Disease and related projects.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with investigators to develop objectives, designing sampling, randomization, and data collection procedures to achieve study objectives.
  • Create/build and maintain databases, records, and files.
  • Create and maintain database documentation.
  • Create and maintain documentation of statistical methods and computing code.
  • Use library and web resources to research statistical methods.
  • Write statistical computer programs, merging files, creating and recoding variables. Review output for consistency and quality.
  • Interact with co-investigators to plan data analyses and interpret results.
  • Perform data analysis and interpretation utilizing knowledge of programming and statistics.
  • Generate reports, figures, and tables for manuscripts, presentations, and posters.
  • Participate in the drafting of methods and results sections of manuscripts, and editing of complete manuscripts.
  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, or related quantitative field.

1 year related experience.

Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

* JHU Equivalency Formula:30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with machine learning preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health records or other large databases preferred.
  • Experience in psychiatry, neurology or dementia research preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency with one or more statistical packages (e.g., Stata, SPSS, R, S+), and strong quantitative skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Able to work independently.

Specific physical requirements for the job:

  • Ability to stand, walk or sit for an extended period of time.
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.

Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
