Washburn Institute of Technology seeks applications for an adjunct Welding Fast Track instructor to begin in January 2021. This is an hourly position with no benefits.

Required Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience or 4000 hours as a welder; this may include military experience or paid experience in a relevant business/industry.
  • Industry-recognized certification or licenses relevant to the welding field.
  • Associate degree or willingness to complete the associate degree at Washburn University within five years of start date.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level.


Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: Duties include develop curriculum according to course competencies on each course syllabus; prepare for and attend all class meetings; develop assignments for the classroom as well as for the lab/shop; enforce policies for safety and use of personal protective equipment for all individuals in the lab/shop environment; maintain student records about the program (i.e. certification testing and the assessment plan); administer tests; evaluate student work; provide feedback to students; assign grades; share (as appropriate) student information with the Student Services and Dean’s offices; use the University’s Learning Management System (Desire 2 Learn or D2L) to track grades as required; evaluate each course one teaches and one’s performance in teaching.
  • Must be able to teach Print Reading; Welding Safety; Oxy-Fuel Cutting Processes; Oxy-Fuel Welding; SMAW; GMAW; FCAW; GTAW; Workplace Skills.
  • All instructors are expected to act in a manner that promotes collegial relationships and shows respect for students, staff, and colleagues. Participate in graduation ceremonies and/or other ceremonial events as pertains to the program. Instructors are expected to meet satisfactory standards of performance in all areas of responsibility and to carry out those responsibilities accordingly.
  • In addition to these essential functions, technical instructors are expected to adhere to college and University policies and to perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
