General Summary/Purpose

The JHSON has received a 1-year planning grant to assess genetics literacy in nursing curricula, develop curriculum evaluation tools and to establish a genetics literacy in nursing Community of practice (CoP). The goal of the grant is to foster greater inclusion of genetics and genomics in nursing curricula and increase genetics and genomics knowledge, skills and competencies of nurses throughout Maryland. The project team will adapt a survey to be administered in Maryland and beyond to assess genetics/genomics literacy of nurses and nursing students, perform curriculum review and mapping for extent of genetics/genomics in nursing curriculum (all academic levels), develop a curriculum evaluation toolkit for genetics/genomics, and develop a community of practice (CoP) for genetics/genomics in Maryland (and beyond).

The Sr. Program Coordinator will collaborate closely with the project team to oversee and manage daily project activities. The manager will also collaborate closely with internal and external partners engaging in the genetics and genomics literacy in nursing CoP.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Academic and Research Responsibilities

  • Oversee and direct activities of the research team, such as: managing the Teams space for the project; scheduling and managing team meetings; organizing state-wide conferences and communication distribution.
  • Assist primary investigators with literature review activities for all aspects of the project.
  • Coordinate with primary investigators to complete a review of internet and other sources (e.g., Nursing Essentials) for genetics and genomics content and resources
  • Design research plans for genetics and genomics in nursing literacy assessment which could include the following techniques: surveys, interview guides, contextual interviews, information gathering tools, matter expert conversations, and/or focus groups
  • Collaborate with research team and academic program directors to identify areas to embed genetics and genomics content across the curricula (i.e., perform gap analysis)
  • Participates on school and university committees related to genetics and genomics curriculum content
  • Package curriculum tools and other project materials for distribution to Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC)
  • Organize and oversee conference logistics for genetics and genomics online and in-person (when possible) conferences
  • Works collaboratively with project team and other faculty as designated to achieve project goals

Fiscal

  • Maintains records of expenditure within university policies
  • Uses resources in accord with sound fiscal principles
  • Leads or supports Project PI in the preparation of implementation grant

External Relationship

  • Fosters partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders and communities within the state, nationally and internationally to assist in the development of the genetics literacy in nursing CoP
  • Oversee set-up and development of platform for genetics and genomics in nursing CoP
  • Promotes the external positioning of the JHSON and the genetics literacy in nursing CoP in social media, promotion of activities and scholarly activities

Minimum Qualifications(Required)

Bachelor’s degree.

Five (5) years of related experience.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the* JHU Equivalency Formula:18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
