Within a centralized admissions office, Admissions Specialist process student applications, advises potential students on admissions requirements and options, evaluates transcripts, and perform college administrative and clerical activities when needed.

Minimum Education/Training/Experience

Equivalent to graduation from high school AND two (2) years of general clerical or office support experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Preferred Education/Training/Experience

Associate degree in a related field AND two (2) years’ experience in a Higher Education Admissions, recruitment or similar office.

Minimum Knowledge & Skills

Exceptional customer service skills;
The use of specified computer applications involving the management of databases or spreadsheet files and the development of special report formats;
Complex or technical office practices and procedures; record keeping practices;
Applicable regulations, policies and statutes;
Making accurate arithmetic calculations;
Performing technical, specialized, complex, difficult or basic technical office support work;
Operating standard office equipment; reading and explaining rules, policies and procedures;
Compiling and summarizing information and preparing periodic or special reports;
Organizing own work, setting priorities and meeting critical deadlines;
Communication, interpersonal skills as related to interaction with students, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills

Experience with Colleague Datatel.

Job Duties

Welcomes prospective students throughout the admission process by answering student inquiries and helping them complete and submit the required Admissions documents.

In coordination with the Director of Admissions/Registrar, develop innovative communication strategies, to reach out to prospective students and keeping students informed and connected to COM .

Maintain the target metrics by converting prospective students into confirmed admits and achieve clearly outlined performance goals.

Evaluates transcripts, processes name changes and updates other academic and demographic information on students in electronic files on computer.

Performs difficult, complex technical and/or specialized office support work, which requires the exercise of independent judgment, the application of technical skills and knowledge of detailed or specialized activities related to Admissions and Records.

Enters, edits and retrieves data and prepares periodic or special reports, using a computer system and following established formats and menus.

Researches and assembles information from a variety of sources for the completion of forms or the preparation of reports; makes arithmetic or statistical calculations.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
