Job Description:

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts is accepting applications for the position of Energy Manager. The Energy Manager is in charge of day-to-day operations of the campus power plant and serves as the Engineer in Charge. responsible for the safe operation of the plant. Our power plant is classified by the state as a 2nd class power plant and includes high pressure steam boilers and a steam-powered turbine. The Energy Manager supervises a team of 3rd Class Power Plant Engineers, as well as the campus HVAC technicians.

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for the management of budgets and purchasing associated with energy and utility systems.

2. Responsible for the supervision and training of staff assigned to the operations and maintenance of all college energy and utility systems.

3. Responsible for the development of deferred maintenance plans and budget requests to Division of Capital Asset Management (DCAMM) for energy and utility related repairs.

4. Responsible for communicating to the campus all energy and utility issues.

5. Responsible for developing and promoting energy saving programs among staff and students.

6. Responsible as the duly licensed Engineer-in-Charge of the MCLA Power Plant registered with the Massachusetts Department of Fire Service-Boiler and Pressure Vessel Program for the safe operation of the campus power plant.

7. Serve as the college liaison with DCAMM on energy management issues and on capital improvement projects related to energy and utility systems.

8. Oversee the implementation of any Energy Performance Contract and all the associated campus improvements contained in this contract.

9. Responsible for ensuring the college is compliant with all state and federal regulations related to energy and utility systems.

10. Responsible for the coordination of the college's energy management system to ensure user comfort and health within the context of the diverse schedule of buildings and rooms.

11. During heating season, will be on call 24/7.

12. Responsible for other duties, as assigned.

13. Responsible for training and certifying Power Plant Operators as Underground Storage Tank Class C operators.


Requirements:

1. Must possess a current Massachusetts Second Class or First Class Engineer license.

2. Must possess a current Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Underground Storage Tank Class A/B Operator Certification.

3. Must possess 3-5 years of experience working in a Power Plant.

4. Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

5. Possess excellent communication skills

6. Ability to work with standard computer software.

7. Computer Aided Design expertise preferred.

8. Supervisory experience.

9. Knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, mechanical and electrical systems preferred.

10. Knowledge of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Massachusetts department of Environmental Protection compliance standards/requirements with regard to Power Plant operations and maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems.


Additional Information:

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, position in the APA bargaining unit. Salary is $75,000.
