This is a full-time, continuing faculty status (tenure)-track, professorial position.
Qualifications:
(1) Master’s degree required; Doctorate preferred or equivalent professional experience on a national/international level;
(2) Teaching experience at university level preferred;
(3) Evidence of an in-depth knowledge of and professional experience in commercial music with its teaching and practices, including subjects such as modern music production techniques, game/media and film scoring, MIDI sequencing, DAW operations, recording, composing, arranging and orchestration, producing, sound design, and performing;
(4) Evidence of a thorough understanding of music business practices such as copyrights, contracts, social marketing and promotion;
(5) Preference given to individuals with a background in jazz.
Responsibilities:
(1) Teach assigned courses that may include music technology, popular music history, music production and recording, game/media and film scoring, orchestration, music business, and others according to expertise;
(2) Mentor and advise undergraduate students;
(3) Pursue scholarly and creative endeavors which may include composition, music production, music for film and media, publications and reviews, and scholarly research/creative works in accordance with the School of Music Rank and Status Document;
(4) Take an active role in the Commercial Music Division, including the audition/review process of potential students and other responsibilities as assigned;
(5) Cultivate and maintain professional affiliations;
(6) Serve on school, college, and university committees as assigned.
The School of Music at Brigham Young University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and has 450 majors enrolled in its undergraduate and graduate programs. The School has 50 full-time and approximately 60 adjunct faculty members and offers instruction leading to a variety of degrees, including the B.A., B.M., B.F.A., M.A., and M.M.
