Open Rank Non-Tenure Track Instructional Faculty: Classroom and Online

The Temple University School of Social Work invites applications for multiple full-time Non-Tenure Track Instructional Faculty. We seek individuals who share our dedication to nurturing the development of social workers committed to evidence based practice at all systems levels within a framework of social justice.

Positions and Qualifications. Applicants should have an MSW and a doctorate (DSW or PhD) in social work, social welfare, or relevant discipline. Although areas of teaching are open, we especially seek candidates with professional experience in clinical social work or child welfare/family development. We welcome applicants for classroom teaching, but particularly seek persons with experience in online education. This includes familiarity with learning management systems and communication/educational software. All faculty are active in the local community and contribute to the curriculum and the School’s committees. These are not remote positions. We value diversity and seek individuals committed to inclusivity in collaborative education and practice. We seek individuals prepared to join us in our commitment toward prioritizing sustainable, inclusive, and anti-oppressive practices. We welcome applications for January 2021 and August 2021. Rank and salary depend on experience and qualifications.

The School of Social Work. Dr. Philip McCallion, an expert in aging, dementia and intellectual disabilities, joined Temple as Director in 2017. Under his direction, SSW’s 23 faculty serve 800 students. The BSW program focuses on generalist practice and the MSW program requires advanced-year students to concentrate in a practice method and specialize in a field of practice. These programs are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education through 2023. SSW plans to launch a doctoral program.

There is strong commitment to supporting students already in the workforce and building interdisciplinary educational opportunities. The School recently celebrated the graduation of its first fully online MSW cohort and is establishing an online BSW program for persons with Associate degrees. MSW students can earn a concurrent MPH and JD. A strong Department of Field Education places about 400 students annually. SSW contributes significantly to the College’s Office of Clinical Practice and Field Education, which makes 3,500 placements annually and maintains relationships with 3,000 community agencies. SSW faculty contribute annually to about 40 continuing education classes for 400 participants supporting the School’s growth in answering career development needs.

Faculty in the School of Social Work conduct research on fatherhood, aging, HIV/AIDS, mental health, substance abuse, health services, LGBTQ social and health issues, acculturation, interpersonal violence, trauma, racial-equity practices, and poverty. Opportunities for non-tenure track faculty exist to contribute to writing grants to support student training and education.

The College. Devoted to an interprofessional environment for academic programming and research, the College of Public Health, a CEPH-accredited school of public health, is a constellation of academic units of public health, social work and health profession disciplines, enrolling 4,300 students. The College’s research focuses on social, behavioral, and environmental inquiries, medical/health interventions, and basic science and is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, and other major funders.  The College has recently launched a new Center focused on Community Engaged Research and Practice. We are harnessing the collective energies of our clinical disciplines through an emerging, innovative framework for interprofessional education.

The University. Temple is an urban, research-intensive Carnegie R1 university located in historic and culturally rich Philadelphia, the nation’s 6th largest city. The city was ranked 3rd by the New York Times as a world tourist destination. The National Science Foundation ranks Temple among the top 100 universities in the country for research expenditures. Temple is the 6th largest provider of professional education in the nation and includes Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Law, and Dentistry and research centers including CPH’s Center for Obesity Research and Education.
