Job Description
This role will be the business partner for the human resources office and will oversee the other human resources roles with the team. Scope of oversight is likely to increase as full implementation of the Service Delivery Team is realized.
Supervises and guides human resources staff performing work as a service to multiple units and participates in day-to-day human resources operations to ensure accuracy and effectiveness of human resources activities. Proactively supports service recipient units’ talent management, organizational design, and workforce planning through consultation and analysis. Oversees process development and improvement initiatives necessary to meet transactional and consultative standards established in service level agreements with departments served by the service team. Provides information and interpretation on relevant policies, procedures, programs, and regulations. Acts as a primary point of contact for unit workforce relations and effectiveness concerns.
Responsibilities include:
Supervises Human Resources service team staff.
Ensures prescribed human resources services are effectively
delivered to assigned units by monitoring process performance and
service quality.
Meets regularly with service recipient unit leadership to
understand organizational needs related to recruiting, retention
and organizational development.
Advises and assists service recipient unit leadership and
supervisors with issues related to managing employee performance
and resolving conflict. Performance management strategy advice may
include effective performance evaluation techniques, performance
documentation practices, methods to assess and research work
environment issues and general policy and procedure advice.
Facilitates workforce and compensation planning processes with
service recipient unit leaders.
Provides support for conflict resolution to enhance workplace
climate.
Participates in the development and implementation of human
resources policies and programs to support the needs of the
institution.
Collaborates with central resource offices, as appropriate.
Reviews distribution of work to optimize assignments and
project-needed resources.
Analyzes, resolves and answers complex or difficult problems
presented by service team and service recipient unit leaders,
managers and employees.
Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations (e.g., NAU, ABOR,
state, federal, etc.).
Evaluates needs and recommends relevant measures to enhance service
recipient unit climate and organizational effectiveness.
Recommends and implements process improvements and new procedures
to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the university service
delivery model.
NAU is currently engaged in an Organizational Growth and
Effectiveness Initiative, which focuses on positioning the
University for future success of its operational practices. As a
result, some aspects of this position may be subject to change,
such as, but not limited to: duties, titles, reporting structure,
etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field, AND
2-4 years of Human Resources experience, AND
1-2 years of management or supervisory experience.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications
SHRM (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) or HRCI (PHR or SPHR)
