Position Summary:

The Cryo-Electron Microscopy Research Center seeks a Research Specialist to assist with a variety of tasks in the lab. The job will include preparing reagents for the lab, ordering and restocking supplies, lab organization, maintaining cryogen supplies and cryogenic storage vessels, EM sample preparation, and microscope operation. It may also include assisting clients with sample preparation and imaging experiments.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

BA/BS in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Physics, or related field is required. Understanding basic principles of chemistry and molecular biology methods is required. Understanding of basic principles of optics and experience with computers and scripting is preferred, but not necessary.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Experience in a research laboratory is required. In particular, competency is expected in the following areas:
- General laboratory methods, including preparation of buffers and sterile technique.
- Computer skills associated with the use of laboratory equipment.
- Capability with computer programs essential for record keeping.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and independent with keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills. The successful candidate will also have strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively as a member of a lab team and with external clients of the cryo-EM research center. Limited weekend and evening hours will be required.

Title prefix is dependent upon relevant experience.
