The primary purpose of an Admissions Counselor is to serve as a liaison between the university and the community at large. To serve in this capacity entails visiting with high school guidance counselors, students and their parents, and other education officials without supervision at private visits in high schools, college fairs, and at other functions throughout Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama.
Duties include: Represent the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) at day and evening programs, high school visits, scholarship programs, etc. primarily in Tennessee and surrounding states; interact with prospective students who visit or call the Admissions office including high school students, transfer students, foreign students, parents, and adult students; follow-up with initial contacts made via mail, email, telephone, and private visits; participate in specialized programs – Freshman/Transfer Orientation, phone calling campaigns, and off-campus events; plan and conduct recruitment events for prospective students; and conduct daily tour talk presentations to visitors explaining college opportunities available to students enrolled at UTC.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Ability to handle multiple and ongoing projects
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of admission policies and academic programs
- Strong organizational skills

Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree; 1 to 3 years of campus involvement (RA, SGA, Orientation leader, tour guide, Enrollment Services offices, etc.) and related experience in recruitment/admissions either while in school or professionally.
Preferred Qualifications:
2 to 3 years of experience in a college admissions office or comparable collegiate/business experience; experience with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and higher education in Tennessee; and valid driver's license.
