*The Director of Media Relations will promote, protect, and enhance DSU's brand, goals, values, programs, and offerings while helping the Vice President for University Advancement and External Relations plan and implement comprehensive internal and external communication, and media relations messaging that reinforces the visioning principles of the university and the objectives of the colleges and schools. The Director of Media Relations will provide media relations on behalf of the president, vice- presidents, deans, cabinet, and other senior leadership. They will create and publish press releases, pitch stories to media, field media queries, prepare/coach/train DSU constituents for interviews, and maintain media lists. The Director will be the backup spokesperson for the university, arrange media interviews, and organize press conferences. Other duties include Develop new and maintain existing relationships with media organizations such as newspapers, magazines, TV stations, radio stations, and websites.
Provide advice on targeting stories in support of strategic initiatives to appropriate media. Analyze, track, and react to media coverage.
Edit rough drafts from campus colleagues and freelance writers. Copyedit, proofread, and revise submitted communications.

Bachelor’s degree in related field. Great writing skills along with editorial experience. The ability to be a highly effective communicator. Able to develop media relationships within the region and state. a good understanding of how media works including newsprint, television, and radio. Strong knowledge of social media norms.
