The Department of Veterans Affairs and the University of Washington are currently recruiting for a full-time physician specializing in comprehensive ophthalmology.  This position is without tenure due to funding and the service period is 12-months: July 1 through June 30. The anticipated start date is winter 2020-21.

This position is based primarily at the Veteran’s Administration Puget Sound Healthcare System’s Seattle location, but may include practice at other University of Washington affiliate sites which include Harborview Medical Center or UW Medical Center. This non-tenured appointment will be made at rank commensurate with qualifications of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. Qualified candidates of all levels of experience will be considered.  Candidates must be U.S. citizens. 

Responsibilities include:  clinical care, resident and clinical fellow training, including surgical training, and teaching of medical students.  The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to scholarship in ophthalmology. Candidates will be expected to provide comprehensive ophthalmology care, including treatment of consult and emergency patients and surgery at the VAPSHCS and University of Washington affiliated hospitals, which include UWMC and Harborview Medical Center.

The successful candidate will have a strong interest in academic ophthalmology with particular emphasis on teaching of residents and fellows.  Contributions to scholarship in the field are expected and protected time for academic endeavors will be provided.  

Candidates must have an MD degree (or foreign equivalent) and have completed ophthalmology residency (or foreign equivalent).  Candidates with fellowship subspecialty training will also be considered.

Applicants must be American Board of Ophthalmology-certified (or foreign equivalent) or Board eligible and eligible for licensure in the State of Washington.

This appointment will be made at rank commensurate with qualifications Assistant, Associate or full Professor. Qualified candidates of all levels of experience will be considered. Candidates must be U.S. citizens.
