General Description of Position

Under the general supervision and direction of the Division Dean/Associate Dean and the Program Director of the Precision Machining & Automation Program, the Adjunct instructor is responsible for providing regular instruction, developing and updating of the courses taught in a classroom/laboratory, Internet, and or distance-learning environment. Teaching assignments for this position include, but are not limited to; Instruction of manual machining procedures on Mills, Lathes, Grinders, Drill Presses, Saws, and various other forms of manual tools. Other tasks may include CAD design, machine and component assembly, material and cutter selection. Safety and Hazard Communication Standards/Hazard and Chemical Right-to-Know.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To Provide Student Instruction in program Courses as Assigned
To provide instruction to a diverse student population in the Precision Machining & Automation Technology program in proper instruction in the safe operation and setup of a variety of machine tool types and models. Additional classes will be taught in machine design, and CAD, materials of industry properties and selection using AISI, SAE, UNS, ASTM, designation systems, including safety and Hazard Communication Standard/Hazard and Chemical Right-to-Know.
To Develop New Courses and Update Existing Courses To develop new courses and update existing courses as required to keep the Precision Machining Technology current with industry standards and processes. New course development includes writing course objectives, develop syllabi, developing handouts and tests and researching textbooks for course use. Also the updating of existing courses to ensure that the course is current with industry standards is required.
To Maintain and Upgrade Classroom/Laboratory Instructional Facilities and Equipment
To be responsible for maintenance of all instructional facilities and equipment and to insure that it is maintained in a safe and proper working order for student use.
To Complete and Maintain Program and Students Records
To be responsible for maintaining permanent student records on courses taught, and following and enforcing college policy requirements regarding attendance policy, grading policy, and student achievement. Assist in completing purchase orders when ordering program supplies and equipment as required for student use, completing production orders on all production projects, and maintaining inventory records of all program equipment in the assigned lab area is required.
Continue to Maintain Technical Competency in Teaching Area
Required to stay technically competent in all areas of teaching responsibilities by attending seminars, professional association meetings, conferences, educational workshops, and self-study.
Participate in College and Program Activities and Committees
Will attend, participate and support all program activities, (i.e. Advisory committee meetings, open house, division meetings, etc.) and College activities and committees as requested.
Will Act as Student and Technical Advisor for the Precision Machining & Automation Technology Program Will advise Precision Machining Technology students on correct courses, student academic standing, support and explain College policies and procedures with students, and complete all records, forms, etc. as necessary for proper student articulation and program operation.
Perform Other College and Program Duties as Assigned
Perform other College and program related duties as assigned. This will include, but not limited to, substitute teaching as required, develop budgets, advise program chair as requested, support and promote the College and the Precision Machining & Automation Technology program, support student recruitment, assist in the security of all College and program materials and equipment, and assist in supervising student help.
Individualized Development Plan (New Instructors)
Each new instructor will develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction.
Professional Development
Faculty should work with their immediate supervisor to develop an annual plan of professional development and improvement.
Promote/Support Diversity

Program Chair/Lead
The instructor may have additional duties and responsibilities of supervising and coordinating the activities of the program and its faculty if assigned to be Program Chair. The primary role of the Program Chair is to ensure that through personal and faculty efforts, students are able to achieve the objectives of the program. The Program Chair reports to the Dean or Associate Dean.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Associate Degree in Precision Machining & Automation Technology or equivalent.
2. Two (2) years of experience in a Precision Machining Technology field.(I.e. operation/use of engine lathe, milling machine, surface grinder and drill press, layout work and bench work, blue print reading and materials of industry (metallurgy).

Desired Qualifications

1. Teaching experience in a secondary or post-secondary setting.
