Position Title: Director, Library and Learning Center Division/Department: Library Location Albany Campus, Albany, OR Job Summary:
The director oversees two departments, the Library and the Learning Center, providing leadership through the supervision of full- and part-time staff and working with campus partners for development, delivery, and evaluation of cross-disciplinary, multimodal library and supplemental instruction. The director develops and implements assessment measures and long-term planning in line with college priorities and accreditation guidelines.
Education and Training: Master’s degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science, Adult Education, Rhetoric and Composition, or a related field of study.
Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the operation of libraries and/or academic support centers, including the supervision of student workers and professional staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● All aspects of library operations, including consortial borrowing and acquisitions.
● Best practices in remote learning support.
● Library, information, and educational ethics.
● Intellectual property and the economics of publishing, including the value of OER, open access, and open source systems; a commitment to leveraging fair use and open licensing (including OER and open source software) to lower costs and increase equitable access.
● Assessment practices for library and academic support services.
● Understanding and commitment to best practices in Adult Learning and Supplemental Instruction.
● Proposal and grant writing and administration.
● Data analysis to analyze trends in student use, assessment of program review goals, and project evaluation.

● Leading, motivating, and supporting teams of people to work collaboratively.

A Master’s degree in a library field is preferred.
Proficiency working with diverse populations is preferred.
Library management experience in an academic library is preferred.
Leadership experience in Learning Assistance is preferred.
Proficiency in a language in addition to English is preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Requires the ability to use electronic communications and computational systems.
Work is performed in a normal office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Less than 25% of the employee’s time is spent working on a computer. Position requires frequent travel for meetings, etc., and may occasionally work early or late hours and weekends. Frequent interruptions and distractions are expected. Position has considerable pressure and periodic stress due to a variety of timelines and deadlines.
Plans organizes, maintains, and manages the processes and operations of the Library, including circulation, interlibrary loan, student computer support, technical services, library technology, and reserves. Manages the activities of the Library (e.g. planning, implementing, administering, and evaluating projects and services impacting Library operations). Collaborates with faculty librarians on planning library instruction and collection management.
Manages academic support programs in the Learning Center, such as classroom-based embedded tutoring, supplemental instruction in math, writing, the sciences, collaborative learning environments, and academic coaching. Collaborates with other departments such as the Center for Accessibility Resources ( CFAR ) and Learning Innovations Center to operate efficiently and effectively.
Promotes campus textbook affordability and OER initiatives in collaboration with the OER and Textbook Affordability Librarian, Center for Accessibility Resources, and other campus support units.
Supervises Library and Learning Center full- and part-time staff and supports them as necessary. In collaboration with the lead staff and department chair, hires, evaluates, trains, and disciplines staff as necessary. Trains and directs the work of part-time faculty as appropriate. Ensures compliance with workload thresholds.
Develops, implements, and monitors program budgets, ensuring compliance with applicable fiscal restraints; implements and allocates resources following budget approval; prioritizes and approves expenditures. Manages the execution of contracts and negotiates contracts with large vendors as needed.
Develops or identifies professional development opportunities for staff and faculty in the Library and Learning Center.
Aligns Library and Learning Center operations with the college’s strategic plan and accreditation measures; participates in retention and student success efforts such as Guided Pathways.
Coordinates promotion of programs and services to prospective and current students. Prepares and delivers presentations regarding academic support and Library services and programs; facilitates meetings on program services and issues.
Hears and resolves student or patron complaints or concerns regarding Library or Learning Center services.
Leads long-range planning for Library and Learning Center services, working in collaboration with management and the Library and Learning Center faculty and staff.
Collects and analyzes a variety of complex data and information used for assessment, process improvement, and program evaluation. Performs statistical analysis and summarizes findings in applicable reports, surveys, and other communication mediums. Responsible for regular reporting, including: ACRL, IPEDS, NWCCU accreditation.
Collaborates in/on a variety of meetings, committees, task forces, and/or other related groups to seamlessly integrate Library and Learning Center services with larger campus initiatives.
Maintains professional currency in Learning Center and Library operations through continued professional development and service on statewide committees. Participate in professional organizations such as the CRLA and the National College Learning Center Association.
Represents the Library and Learning Center in the Linn Libraries Consortium, Oregon Community College Library Association, CRLA, Oregon Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges, and other groups as needed.
Coordinates security and facilities maintenance for the Learning Center and Library.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
