The Rice Online director of marketing is responsible for building and managing a comprehensive marketing strategy for all of Rice Online’s digital content and evaluating its effectiveness. Charged with reaching revenue goals, the director of marketing will coordinate the digital marketing efforts of multiple Rice Online online offerings and programs, while working with other campus marketing units to implement new marketing programs and tactics based on development of ROI -based business justification. S/he will promote and strategically reinforce the Rice Online brand and mission, actively seeking out ways to promote Rice Online initiatives on campus and off. The director of marketing will report to the vice president of global and digital strategy, and will work closely with the Rice Online director of operations to set marketing, communication, and enrollment objectives.

More than five years in marketing and related work, preferably in a leadership role.

- Knowledge of the web, technology, social platforms, current and future trends
- Excellent writing and analytical skills
- Demonstrated problem solver
- Ability to leverage current and future trends to help an organization succeed at the initiative level, for a specific group, team or unit
- Ability to work independently to meet expected deadlines and schedules
- Experience leading highly‐functioning teams
- Ability to present to all levels at the university and to convey complex marketing topics to a wide audience

Skills Preferred

- Versed in and extremely comfortable with digital marketing, particularly in a higher education setting
- Track record in planning marketing strategies, advertising campaigns, and digital marketing programs
- Understanding of integrated marketing programs that strengthen the brand, connect with key stakeholders, and drive enrollments and affiliation
- Expert in lead generation strategy and tactics and use of tactics to create preference and drive conversions on the path to purchase
- Strong knowledge of digital marketing technologies and new developments in the space
- Ability to understand consumer needs and translate them into effective marketing messages
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with proficiency in interpreting data
- Proven ability to manage and lead a high-performing team
- Ability to optimize a marketing budget and make every dollar count

External contacts: The incumbent has contact with marketing agencies and other related vendors.

Physical Demands

May have long periods of using the computer and will need to travel across campus frequently.

Essential Functions

- Leads the development and implementation of the digital communication and brand strategy for a large department, school or division
- Manages the writing, design and coordination of the production of digital communication and marketing materials
- Develops integrated communications and / or marketing strategies and plans to meet objectives
- Oversees digital community‐building through social media channels, blogs and/or the web
- Manages development and implementation of digital community strategy for a group, unit, project, program, initiative, channel, organization or unit; including how to engage customers and fundamentally impact their relationship with constituents
- Designs and develops graphics and web pages
- Participates in university‐wide and / or organization‐wide initiatives and cross‐functional teams to establish the organization as a strategic partner and thought leader
- Responsible for ownership and management of digital channels and / or the web
- Oversees editorial strategy and voice
- Partners with internal stakeholders such as program teams, service teams, IT, campus partners to achieve program goals and to ensure coordination
- Manages constituent complaints and reputational issues and other high priorities on digital channels
- May coach and act as lead for teams
- Performs all other duties as assigned
