Executive Director, Pathway to Medicine for Minority Students

 

Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President for Research & Innovation/Chief Healthcare Strategy Officer, and serving as a principle advisor, this newly created role will lead the CSU Pre-medical Program for Underrepresented Minority Students. This program focuses exclusively on preparing underrepresented and underserved minority students for acceptance to medical school. As part of that overarching effort, the Executive Director will collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to establish a best in class program which prepares CSU students for education & career opportunities in medicine.

 

This role will provide program management oversight for the CSU Pre-medical Program for Underserved Minority Students. Fundamental to this is strengthening the pre-med and health profession student experience through collaboration with the College of Sciences & Health Professions (COSHP).

 

Cleveland State University’s anchor strategy is predicated on and plays a critical role in driving forward commitment to strengthening Northeast Ohio, while at the same time advancing our economic development portfolio through workforce development. Core to this is producing the next generation of underrepresented minority healthcare providers to live and work in Northeast Ohio. To enable this, the Executive Director, Pathway to Medicine for Minority Students interfaces with city/county agencies and schools, as well as an extensive network of nonprofit and for profit community partners; manages all aspects of the program, including planning, and fiscal management; provides oversight of program metrics and evaluates opportunities for program improvements.

 

The role will model entrepreneurship, financial stewardship, strategic thinking and communication to build collaborative relationships across CSU, community groups and external agencies that drive greater efficacy and create opportunities to showcase the CSU Pre-medical Program for Underrepresented Minority Students.

 

The successful candidate will be astute in student advocacy and engagement with faculty, community partners, potential donors and major teaching hospitals in assuring success of the program.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in healthcare or related field from an accredited college/university

Minimum of 7 years’ demonstrated experience in pre-med or higher education academic program management, student development and consultation, and project management.

Thorough knowledge and understanding of medical education requirements

Extensive experience working with diverse student populations
