Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Facilities Engineering & Assessments, the Campus Energy Manager at Virginia Tech will be responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive energy management plan for the university that provides proper environmental conditions with cost effective energy utilization. Additionally, this position will work with the university's Sustainability Program to help advance the Virginia Tech Climate Action Commitment and Sustainability Plan (VTCAC) and support the university's goal to become a leader in environmental excellence among higher education institutions.

Required Qualifications

Must have an advanced engineering degree or training and work experience that equates to an advanced degree.
Professional designation of Certified Energy Manager (CEM) is required within six months of accepting the position.
Significant building/plant engineering experience with a strong focus on energy management, HVAC systems, building lighting technologies and utilities in a large campus or utility setting.
Working knowledge of centralized utility operations and accounting, utility tariffs, and fuel procurement.
Working knowledge of LEED rating system and reporting requirements.
Knowledge of applicable building codes and ASHRAE standards.
Must be detail oriented and computer proficient.
Strong communication skills with a proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to be a team player, work with and positively influence others. Interactions may be individual, in large multi-skilled technical groups, or in cross-functional teams with people at all levels of the organization.
Highly organized with excellent project management skills as well as technical and administrative problem solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

LEED Green Associate or AP credentials.
Additional certifications from the Association of Energy Engineers.
Working knowledge of environmental sustainability programs and practices.

Additional Information

Work is performed primarily in office environment, however some travel to campus buildings, campus construction sites and off-campus sites is required. Site visits would involve standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing steps, etc. Repetitive movement with use of keyboarding. Must have a criminal background check. Must have an acceptable and safe driving record. Candidates for employment are required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening. Incumbents are subject to random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug and alcohol screening. Some overnight travel and stay may be required. May be required to work additional hours to meet the needs of the department.
