Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder School of Education is currently accepting applications for a full-time Master Teacher in Mathematics Education for their CU Teach Program. The CU-Teach Program is an innovative, nationally renowned secondary math and science teacher education program offered through a collaboration among the University of Colorado Boulder School of Education, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Engineering and Applied Science. It offers a unique engineering pathway to science and math teacher licensure through an engineering major and the CU Teach Engineering Program and prepares outstanding secondary (grades 7-12) science and math teachers.

A CU Teach Master Teacher is recognized for their excellent classroom teaching and leadership in professional development. The Master Teacher plays a critical role in teaching and coaching students and facilitating strong partnerships with local schools and community organizations. They work closely with faculty and staff in the College of Arts and Science and College of Engineering to develop and implement discipline-specific certification courses. They will also work with faculty and staff in the School of Education to ensure advisement, course content, and field-experiences align with other teacher education efforts.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Responsibilities in this position include but are not limited to:
  • Teach a minimum of 7 courses or 21 credits annually unless otherwise arranged with the Dean.
  • Support program evaluation efforts for pre-service candidates that are student teaching.
  • Work with CU Teach Director to establish and maintain field experience sites and to coordinate student placements in field experiences.
  • Work with local area public school teachers, who act as mentors for the students, and conduct field observations of the students in elementary, middle, and high school contexts.
  • Collaborate with School of Education, College of Arts & Sciences, and College of Engineering to ensure advisement, course content, and field experiences are consistent with program goals.
  • Mentor students.
  • Carry out other programmatic tasks, e.g., provide recruitment support, update program documents, represent the program to district and community partners, coordinate internship positions.

What We Require

  • Master’s degree in mathematics education or in a field of math.
  • Minimum 5 years as a successful secondary mathematics or science classroom teacher, with a preference for experience in diverse public schools.
  • Deomonstrated experience and/or leadership in professional development and experience working with beginning teachers or equivalent, e.g., teacher coach or mentor.
  • Regular participation in state, regional, or national professional organizations and activities.
