Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor in Quantum Information and Quantum Communication in the Department of Physics (Ref.: 501909) to commence as soon as possible on a three-year fixed-term basis.

The University of Hong Kong has a highly ranked Faculty of Science and an active Physics Program. The Department of Physics offers B.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree programs. It has about 25 full-time faculty members and is well-equipped with teaching and research support facilities. Information about the Department can be obtained at https://www.physics.hku.hk/ .

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Physics or related engineering fields. Previous research experience in quantum information and quantum communication will be highly desirable. Both theorists and experimentalists are welcome to apply. For theorists, a strong publication record in quantum information and quantum communication will be highly desirable. For experimentalists, excellent hands-on research experience in optical fiber communication, particularly fiber-based quantum key distribution, would be advantageous. Applicants should also have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, and an excellent command of English.

The appointee will participate in a collaborative multidisciplinary research program on quantum communication under the supervision of Professor Hoi-Kwong Lo. He/She will be responsible for applying for research funding, supervising research postgraduate students and research assistants, and working on administrative duties to promote the educational mission of the University.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
