DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATION AND POLICY

Multiple Tenure Track Faculty (All Ranks) in Health Policy, Services and Management

At a time when public health has never been more important, Temple University’s College of Public Health is working to solve health’s complexities for a better tomorrow. As one of the largest colleges of public health in the country, we are home to faculty who specialize in 17 health disciplines to prepare researchers, practitioners and educators to collaborate across disciplines to understand community needs, create evidence-based solutions, and deliver effective, compassionate care. We invite applications from Health Policy, Services and Management researchers for multiple tenure track faculty at all ranks to join the Department of Health Services Administration and Policy in Spring 2021 or Fall 2021.

Qualifications. We seek individuals committed to collaborative, interdisciplinary research. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability or promise to develop a record of outstanding research productivity, obtain external funding, and contribute to the Department’s teaching mission. Professional experience in healthcare, public health, health services or health administration is desirable but not required. Although candidates with agendas in all areas will be considered, the Department has special interest in candidates with research in opioids and mental health, structural inequality in the delivery of health care, cancer prevention and control, health insurance and financing, comparative effectiveness research, health care financing and utilization, decision support systems and decision analysis, and patient-centered outcomes research.  We seek passionate professionals committed to academic leadership in training the next generation of practitioners and researchers about the real-world aspects of public health policy, management and administration. We value diversity and seek individuals committed to inclusion in education and professional practice.

Candidates are welcome from relevant disciplines in public health and social science disciplines. Rank depends on experience.  Candidates for Assistant Professor must have strong research potential as demonstrated by publications. Candidates for Associate Professor should have a strong record of publication and external grant funding.  Candidates for Full Professor position should have a portfolio of publications and funding that distinguishes them, nationally or internationally, as leaders in health informatics, health services or policy research.  Cluster faculty hiring of research teams comprised of senior and early career faculty is encouraged.

The Department and Programs. The Department of Health Services Administration and Policy is comprised of accredited academic programs, including BS in Health Information Management, MPH in Health Policy and Management, MS in Health Informatics, and PhD in Health Policy and Health Services Research. The Department also offers graduate certificates in Health Informatics, Public Health Law Research, and Clinical Health Services Research. Faculty are engaged in teaching, research, and entrepreneurial activities with about 300 students. The Department contributes to the College’s BS in Public Health and BS in Health Professions. Research emphases are in the areas of the impact of laws and policies on health, quality of care, healthcare financing, disparities and access to care, evolving methodologies for big data analytics, and the impact of health information technologies.

Dr. Huanemi Wu, an accomplished biomedical informatics researcher with expertise in big data and technology, joined Temple as Department Chair July 1, 2020. With extensive experience in faculty and student recruitment and academic program development, Dr. Wu will lead the department, established in 2015, through an exciting transformation. The department’s research and educational programs will integrate health informatics, health services research, and health policy and management by bringing innovations and applications of big data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to healthcare, advancing healthcare and policy through digital health technologies, mobile health, and health tool inventions.

The College. Devoted to an interprofessional environment for academic programming and research, the College of Public Health, a CEPH-accredited school of public health, is a constellation of academic units of public health, social work and health profession disciplines, enrolling 4,300 students.
