Position Purpose

Assist Rink Manager in preparing and maintaining ice rinks and associated areas of the gym to support sports programs.

Seasonal, October to mid-March, 20 - 30 hours/week, Monday – Saturday 4:30pm- 10:30pm; Sunday 6:00am - 1:00pm, as needed. Schedule may vary according to departmental and Academy needs.

Key Accountabilities
  • Assist Rink Manager in preparing rinks for all rink-related programs.
  • Operate and maintain Ice Resurfacers and ice edger.
  • Operate and perform routine preventative maintenance on ice making equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair work during and at the end of the skating season.
  • Clean Plexiglas shields and rink boards after each skating season.
  • Secure and lockup rinks after night and/or weekend rentals and events.
  • Clean rink areas, including rest rooms, team rooms, hallways, stands, players’ boxes and penalty boxes.
  • Sweep, wash and mop floors, empty trash, replenish toilet paper and perform other similar duties.
  • Shovel snow at rink entrances/exits, emergency exits and other areas as directed.
  • Sweep front entrance stairs.
  • Contact and assist emergency personnel in the event of a skating injury.

Incumbent is expected to work with a high level of independence and autonomy, and exercise a high degree of initiative, influence, and judgment in decisions impacting staff and department operations.

Expected to solve problems or address issues that require immediate attention.

Direct/Indirect Reports

None.

Internal & External Contacts

Frequent contact with students, Dean of Students office, PEA administrative and academic offices, faculty, coaches, and staff. External contacts may include parents, outside organizations, visitors and local community neighbors.

Position Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.


Experience

  • Experience with rink operations preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting is preferred.

  • Physical Requirements

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    1. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work and will require the ability to remain standing for extended periods of time, go up and down flights of steps, lift and push heavy objects as well as stoop, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift.
    1. Ability to sit in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.
    2. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
    3. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example using a keyboard.
    4. Communication skills using the spoken and written word.
    5. Ability to see with normal parameters.
    6. Ability to use a visual display terminal with continuous wrist movement on a keyboard.
    7. Ability to hear within normal range.
    8. Ability to lift and transport up to 50lbs without assistance.
    9. Ability to work in cold temperatures in the rink and work on wet, slippery ice.
    Additional Requirements
    1. Successfully complete a criminal background check (reviewed every 5 years).
    2. Clean Driving record (reviewed annually).
    3. Must consistently wear assigned uniform and equipment and adhere to the appearance guidelines.
    4. May be required to handle hazardous materials in the work area.
