The mission of the Computer Systems Engineering Technology (CSET) Department is to prepare students for productive careers in industry and government by providing an excellent education incorporating industry relevant, applied laboratory based instruction in both the theory and application in the areas of computer engineering, embedded systems engineering, and software engineering. Our focus is educating students to meet the growing workforce demand in Oregon and elsewhere for graduates prepared in the fields we support.

The CSET department believes strongly in the hands-on education learning model that Oregon Tech is famous for. All of the bachelor programs in the CSET department have two project sequences: Junior Projects – a three-term team based project and Senior Projects – a three-term individual project. In addition, most of the CSET classes have a lab component built into the course.

Our graduates are in high demand in industry because employers recognize that our students come prepared to be immediately productive as a member of their organization. This is one of the reasons our employment rates for all CSET programs are over 90%, with most students having job offers months before graduation.

A qualified applicant should have a strong background in C++ as that is our department’s primary language. Specific skills we are looking for include network programming and cloud development. As a small department, faculty are expected to teach freshman through senior level classes. This individual would also be expected to cover classes from some of the following areas: data structures, design patterns, software engineering methodologies, or project management. To be clear, we are not expecting one individual with all of these skillsets, but these are the areas where we could use some additional help.

While the primary job duties are teaching and advising, this tenure track position has additional institutional and professional development expectations that allow for a robust professional work environment. Professional development may include but is not limited to the publication of scholarly works, applied research, collaboration with industrial partners, grant writing, or consulting activities. Institutional service may include on-campus committee membership and participation in departmental initiatives.

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in related field.
  • Desire to teach and interact with students.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience teaching in higher education.
  • Two years of relevant industry experience.
