The Communication Department provides students the communication knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to enter a variety of professional fields after graduation: management, marketing, public relations, law, government, professional communication, education, health care, human relations, and any other field in which communication skills are vital. In addition, Communication majors attend graduate school to pursue degrees in law, business, education, or communication.

 

The College of Health, Arts, and Sciences at Oregon Tech, an Oregon public university, is seeking candidates for a one-year writing instructor to teach in the Communication Department beginning Fall 2020 (start date negotiable but Fall 2020 strongly preferred).

This Instructor will primarily teach general-education courses in writing and public speaking.

The successful candidate will be a committed, passionate, and effective teacher. The successful candidate will be expected serve at the departmental level to maintain quality academic curriculum.
The successful candidate will pursue appropriate professional development to maintain excellence in teaching.

The Communication Department is dedicated to its 18-credit general-education program, and Oregon Tech values and rewards excellent teaching.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • A. in Rhetoric/Composition
  • Experience teaching college-level composition courses with a focus on rhetoric and academic writing

OR

  • MA in a related disciplinary field with a minimum of 30 graduate quarter credit hours in Rhetoric/Composition
  • Experience teaching college-level composition courses with a focus on rhetoric and academic writing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Rhetoric/Composition or a closely related field
  • Specialization in TESOL and/or basic writing
  • Experience teaching any of the following subjects: public speaking, technical writing, basic writing, L2 writing, journalism
